With great fondness for Yann Martel’s novel, I consider this a satisfying adaptation and an exhilarating theatrical experience. Piscine Molitor Patel, who calls himself Pi (Divesh Subaskaran), is the sole survivor of a shipwreck in the Pacific Ocean. During an investigation into the incident, he frustrates Japanese Ministry of Transport officials with a fantastical tale of sharing a lifeboat for 227 days with a Bengal Tiger named Richard Parker. The nuanced specifics of their precarious yet loving relationship are the pulsating heart of this story.
