Presented by Keith Brown
I’ve caught Keith Brown a few times. He’s a magic crush to many, I imagine. 100% Wizard is, no surprise, a delight. With Brown, the magic is a huge draw, of course, but the event is always a satisfying fusion—his understated showmanship and charm, his storytelling skills, his wit, his disarming way with people of all ages. With ease, he connects with his audience, especially those who participate, and uplifts them.
You get the sense he loves learning new things and he demonstrably enjoys sharing info with his audience. He passed on some informative little nuggets about playing cards this time around—some of the history and development of their current form. Do you the meaning behind the 52 cards? Do you know what the suits represent? Don’t Google it, see his show!
I’m obsessed with deconstructing theatre—analyzing the craft, knowing how it’s done, investigating whenever I’m not sure. It’s common, I guess, to want to do the same with magic, but that’s where my compulsion ends. I’m really fine with not knowing how it’s done. Yes, of course, I’m curious, but the wondering is what I most crave! I love to indulge that weird, innocent part of me that almost hopes it’s real.
I especially love mentalist tricks. That stuff’s wild. And it makes up a good chuck of his show here. What else? A card was stabbed. A lemon appeared. I mean, just from his pocket and it wasn’t the right fruit, but that wasn’t the trick anyway. No, it was—HA! I’m not going to tell you, go see his show!
He’s great with kids, too. I got a little lump in my throat a few times. Strange for a magic show, yeah, but he just has a way of making it all feel sort of special and important while its happening. And I was happy to see his “strangest trick” again! It’s still creepy. Love it.
